I agree, big-time. This was partly my point last week the the post on the Dead Covers project. I know there are cover bands out there for the Beatles, Led Zep, and let's not get started on Elvis impersonators... I think there are more Dead cover bands around the country than all the other bands put together! Some of them are pretty darn good, and darn fine musicians to boot. This music is firmly established repertoire for a lot of performers.

and, lesser point, although Bob and Phil are way past appealing to the young set, at least they have nothing to be ashamed of when they get onstage like, say Mick Jagger... although Sir Paul pulled of a pretty decent performance the other night.
